Ahoy there...

Simon and Stephanie in the bush at Gombe

Simon Carr (a JGI Trustee) and his wife Stephanie Farrimond visited Tanzania last year and saw first hand the research work and chimpanzees at Gombe. Stephanie and Simon are passionate about wildlife and Africa and have been amazingly supportive to JGI over the years.

Whilst spending time with the staff and rangers on site, they saw that there was a need to replace one of the wooden bottomed boats that are used by staff on the massive expanse of Lake Tanganyika. The boats are used to bring in supplies and allow the staff to move more quickly up and down the coast.

Upon their return to the UK, they decided to ask their friends and family to make donations to a fund for a new boat in lieu of Christmas and birthday presents. The good ship Flo (named for one of the most famous chimpanzees at Gombe) was launched this month.

Thank you to both Stephanie and Simon for their generosity and ongoing support.
