International Day of Peace 2025 🕊️🌍

Today, the world marks the United Nations International Day of Peace. This year’s theme - Act Now for a Future World - feels more urgent than ever.

In her message, Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, reminds us that peace is not simply the absence of war, but also the presence of respect, compassion, and harmony with the natural world. She reflects on the many crises we face: conflict and displacement, violence in communities, the climate emergency, and the destruction of our environment.

Yet Jane’s message is also one of hope. Across the work of the Jane Goodall Institute, individuals and communities are proving that positive action can overcome despair. From local conservation projects to international campaigns, and through our Roots & Shoots programme, young people in over 75 countries are showing that every individual matters, every action counts, and together we can make change.

Jane’s vision of peace goes beyond borders. It’s about recognising our shared humanity, treating animals with kindness, and protecting the planet that sustains us all.

On this Peace Day, we invite you to reflect on what peace means to you — and how you can act for a kinder, more compassionate future. Whether it’s conserving water, planting trees, supporting a neighbour, or simply showing respect to those around you, your choices make a difference.

🌱 Together, we can nurture compassion, slow climate change and biodiversity loss, and work towards a more peaceful future for people, animals, and the environment.
