Jane Goodall’s light shines on as her portrait is unveiled

On the first anniversary of Dr Jane Goodall’s passing, supporters, family and friends gathered at the Science Museum in London to celebrate her extraordinary life and unveil a new portrait by artist Mr Brainwash, which will now be displayed at the museum.

On 1 October 2026, exactly one year after we lost Jane, we came together at the Science Museum to remember her, celebrate all that she gave to the world, and carry forward the hope that was at the heart of everything she did.

The day centred on the unveiling of a striking portrait of Jane by artist Mr Brainwash. Bold, colourful and full of life, the work captures something of the warmth, energy and determination that defined Jane and her life’s work. The portrait will now be on display at the Science Museum, giving visitors from around the world the opportunity to encounter Jane’s story and, we hope, leave inspired by her belief in our collective power to make a difference.

The portrait was made possible by a remarkable group of people we are proud to call The Founding Supporters. Through their generosity, Jane’s portrait now has a special place in one of the UK’s most loved museums, where it can inspire visitors and future generations. Their names are recorded on a plaque alongside the portrait - an enduring thank you for helping us celebrate Jane’s life and keep her legacy alive.

It was an emotional occasion, but also one filled with optimism. Jane always reminded us that every one of us makes a difference, every single day - and that we each have a choice about the difference we make. Seeing people of different generations come together in her honour was a powerful reminder that, while Jane is deeply missed, her message has lost none of its urgency or its ability to inspire action.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, to the team at the Science Museum for hosting this special occasion so beautifully, and above all to The Founding Supporters, whose generosity made this tribute possible.

As part of the day, Zac Goldsmith was also named as the raffle winner of a Mr Brainwash piece.

If you would like to take a piece of this special project home,  exclusive Mr Brainwash prints created for the Jane Goodall Institute UK are available to purchase through our shop www.janegoodall.org.uk/shop/art

It offers another way to celebrate Jane’s extraordinary legacy while supporting the work she inspired.
