Itinerary at a glance

Day 1 - 3 - On arrival in Dar Es Salaam, you will be met at the airport by your private safari guide holding a sign with The Jane Goodall Institute logo and transferred to the Slipway hotel. Overnight Hotel Slipway. 2 Nights

Day 2 - Guided half day Dar Es Salaam City Tour this morning, including a visit to the JGI office in Dar and an opportunity to plant a tree at Jane Goodall's house. Afterwards, gather for lunch at the hotel.

Day 3 - 5 - Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing on a market tour, followed by brunch in Dar and a transfer to the airport to check-in for Air Tanzania TC128 (depart Dar 2:40pm, arrive Kigoma 5:00pm). You will be met on arrival in Kigoma and transferred to the hotel. Take in the stunning views at the hotel, dinner and overnight. Full day in Kigoma to meet the local team, visit project sites and learn more about the Jane Goodall Institute's work in the area. Gather for a special dinner tonight. Overnight Kigoma Hilltop Hotel. 2 Nights

Day 5 - 8 - Boat transfer from Kigoma to Gombe. Visit Mtanga village en route to learn about land use planning, micro-credit and forest monitoring. Settle into the lodge and enjoy a hot lunch before heading into the forest with local guides for the first time this afternoon. Return by boat to the lodge for sundowners and dinner with the local JGI team. Two full days of chimp trekking including meeting Field Assistants (FA's) in the forest who play a critical role in the long-running chimpanzee and primatology studies pioneered by Dr. Jane Goodall. RA's in the Gombe forest, all of whom are Tanzanian, are responsible for daily tracking and observation of chimpanzees and baboons, collecting vital behavioral and ecological data. Share reflections from the morning over a packed lunch at Jane's House followed by a tour of the Chimp Health Lab and Herbarium, to learn about chimp tools and medicinal plants. Sundowners and dinner at the lodge tonight. Overnight Mbali Mbali Gombe Lodge. 3 Nights

Day 8 - After breakfast embark on a 2-hour boat transfer back to Kigoma for a farewell lunch at Hilltop and a road transfer to the airport to board a 5:40pm scheduled flight to Dar, arriving 8:00pm to connect with international flights home with memories to last a lifetime.   • Campers ease into the day with light games, creative prompts, and a welcome circle to set the tone.

  • Campers will be responsible for brining their own lunch, but we'll provide water and some additional snacks daily.

  • Hands-on time to explore the daily theme—whether it’s art, building, storytelling, or movement.

  • We'll end the day with a closing circle before campers head home for the evening.

Where to Find Us

Shuttle transportation is available to and from camp. Participants can be picked up near the York Street Subway Station on the F subway line. Subway access to the F, G, A, C, 2, 3 and B67.
